For the true hockey fanJul 25, 2010 This is actually the second time I bought this toy for my son. He is now seven and had the first one since he was 3 or 4 years old. When he was younger he did not care for the plastic boards, which ultimately broke. They are a little hard to fit together or take apart for a younger child, and do not fit easily into the carry case.
However, that being said, even without the boards, he loved playing with the ice surface and players. He would re-enact Bruins games and do the play by play. As he grew, he wanted to have the side boards again and would often build them with blocks. He plays with this toy so often that I wanted to give him a chance to have a new one now that he was older.
I love the fact that it is not an electronic game but rather one that encourages his imagination. I think of them as the sports fans version of old fashion army men. My son also has the Baseball and football version of this toy. His favorite is definately the hockey as it has the puck that adds more to the play. The other two only come with the players to be repositioned on the playing fields.
Hockey GuysJun 25, 2010 My 3 and 4 year olds play rough with the hockey guys, they hold up pretty well. They love to count the guys on the ice and they are recognizing the numbers on the jerseys. They also love to set them up in play formation and tell me what will happen next..... If these get lost or broken , I will replace, we love them!
endless imaginative play for 6yr old sonMar 12, 2010 My son plays with this toy for hours at a time. He pretends to be his favorite players and sets up different plays. This toy also gives me the opportunity to set up the players and ref in game formations and explain the different rules ( offsides, icing, etc..) Compact and durable. easy to assemble ( 30 seconds )
Hours of fun for all ages!Jan 08, 2010 My 3 boys, 7,4,3 love these hockey guys. They offer hours of fun and have a great storage case which is great for travel as well. I do recommend keep the rink itself not in the case and rather stored flat so that it will not crease as much allowing the hockey guys to stand better during play.
Creative PlayDec 27, 2009 We've got three little boys, ages 8, 5 & 3, who love the hockey, soccer, football & baseball guys. For little ones who like "guys", these toys really encourage imaginative play... for us, preferred over video games or movies... very fun to watch.
The main reason I'm providing a review is to detail how I was able to 'fix' the only problem we've had with the 'guy' series... Inevitably, one or more of the guys will show up unable to stand up, either because his base is 'warped' or he's bent at an angle that won't allow him to stay upright. This also works for guys who are holding bent bats, hockey sticks, etc...
Heat a pot of water to just about boiling.
Immerse the portion of the 'warped' guy in the hot water for about 30 seconds.
Stand the guy up in the sink on a plate or some other flat surface and hold him up in the preferred position.
Run cold water over the guy for about 15 sec.
Once you've run the cold water over the guy, this effectively 'resets' the position of the guy.
If you haven't got the guy 'just right', you can do it over. There shouldn't be a problem with repeated temperature excursions.
Some pointers;
Standard warnings about working with hot liquids... should only be done by an adult or supervised. Be careful! Don't immerse your hand in the hot water.
Don't immerse the whole guy, just the part you're trying to fix.
If you need to fix the base as well as a bat or other spot, do them separately.
Hope this helps.
